Venture Outdoors with the Dillards
|
|
Jan G. Dillard was born in New Orleans, then raised in Georgia. Jeannie W. Dillard is a native Georgian. In December 1981 they moved to their current home in Conyers, Georgia. In the spring of 1995, Jeannie began Venture Outdoors with her primary goal to help women not fear, but understand handguns. In the fall of 1995 they were contracted by the Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center (CEWC) of the Ga. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to teach the firearms classes for the Becoming an Outdoor Woman (BOW) event. Today they still work closely with the DNR and CEWC by teaching all of their firearms classes with the exception of muzzle loading. They also teach CEWC's basic fly-fishing classes. In 1999 they began teaching at the FFA-FCCLA Center in Covington, Ga. teaching shotgun at the FFA-FCCLA Summer Camp programs. In 2001 and after 34 years with AT&T, Jan retired and joined Jeannie full time at Venture Outdoors. This also allowed more time to work with week long summer programs. In 2002, Venture Outdoors was contacted by the director of the FFA-FCCLA Center, about creating a new summer camp. Working together, they create a new summer camp based on the hunter safety education program. The camp is called the "FFA Wildlife Camp". The first week long camp was held in July 2003. This camp not only teaches kids about the outdoors, it allows them to experience outdoor activities. At the end of the week, the kids take the hunter safety education test which allows them to achieve their Safe Hunter Certification. In both 2003 and 2004 the Wildlife Camps were such a great success that in the summer of 2005 a second week for Wildlife Camp was added. Also in 2005, there was the addition of a new week long camp. It's the FFA Advanced Wildlife Camp. When not working with CEWC and the FFA-FCCLA Center, Jan and Jeannie are teaching programs for Venture Outdoors where they offer private and group instruction in many outdoor areas, with their specialty being in firearms. Their instructions in firearms cover the beginner through the experienced. If you want to try shooting and do not own a firearm, they can provide a class that is right for you. If you do not see what you wish on their calendar, give them a call. They can arrange a class that will fit your needs. Together they work hard to keep all of their classes safe, interesting, informative, and fun. Certifications: Jan: National Sporting Clays Assoc.
